The town might have been a safe haven, but any smart person was inside. The usual bustling town was quiet, too quiet for a college campus. No cars were running, no air units could be heard, no students are found outside... If the students are outside, they have taken a precaution- facial masks securely cover their faces. There had been a few reports of the flu on campus... And were rushed to the hospital... reports were sent out... the town wasn't as safe as everyone thought.
Kailey sat in her room, alone. She lived on the first floor in the first-year dorm on campus: College Street. She didn't have a roommate, but still had the extra bed, desk and bookshelves anyways. Her room was organized. Her clothes on one side... supplies on the other. The supplies ranged from food to medical supplies to cleaning supplies. She had gotten a-hold of multiple boxes of latex gloves and facial masks. Her fridge was stocked with plenty of water... and she was one of those who dared go outside.
Kailey stood in front of the mirror and pulled her hair back. The guys in the room next to her busied themselves with a game, much as they normally did. She grabbed the white face mask and put it on. Her can of lysol was next to the door, ready for when she came back. The string stretched around her head, under her ponytail. A pair of gloved were pulled on. She opened the door, and left the sanctuary of her room; her key jingled around her neck, sunglasses tinted over her eyes. Kailey tucked the metal into her tanktop, and she left her dorm hall.
She checked her watch- she should be going to classes right now... but they had long been canceled. Today... was a special day... It would be dedicated to finding her weapon. She walked past the gym, the music center, the science building to the center of campus. Old College looked eerie as ever with no sound- not even a bird. She listen to her footsteps, her heel scuffing the pavement as she walked. She looked around- guys from the fraternity in the middle of campus watched her. One held up a sign, "Good as Dead". She could see them laughing behind the glass. She shook her head and kept walking. It was a long walk to the center of town... and she was going to save the gas in her car in case she had to get out. Another thing she made sure to get when word first got out... were gas cans. She had them, in her room, full of gas.... And everyone made fun of her. She'd be back with a few more- even if it meant breaking into the stores. The cops no longer patrolled, and no one dared leave. The town was almost like a treasure cave- and she was the only explorer....
Kailey peered into the small shop on the square. She glanced around, just out of habit, to make sure no one saw her. She folded her arm, then slammed her elbow into the glass. It shattered. No alarm sounded. She carefully stepped inside to get a better look around. She moved her sunglasses up into her hair so she could see... A small restaurant... and the smell of rotting food easily crept through the mask. She gagged at the smell, but went on in... Something useful had to be there... Like maybe a door to the pawnshop... that was sure to have some sort of weapon. And she found it. She jiggled the handle to the door, then kicked it open. Kailey walked in cautiously. She had been in there before, she distinctly remembered, 'No Firearms sold without a license'... But what, exactly, would be found? She browsed up and down the aisles, grabbing a few odds-and-ends; a lock-picking kit, bobby-pins, new pair of shoes. She walked all the way to the back corner... and found them... all of them. All sorts of firearms. She nearly laughed and cheered out. Not carrying what she grabbed, she took a gun and quickly left the store, leaving from the shattered window in the restaurant.
Kailey walked over to a bench and sat down outside of city hall. She kicked her flip-flops off, and slipped into the "new" sneakers. She preferred boots, but that would be another trip. She had shoved the picking kit between her breasts; safe and secure, just like her key... and then, she focused her attention on the beauty next to her. A scope sat upon the body... a nice sniping gun. Eagerly, she examined it, disappearing off into her own little world as she fingers traced over the practically new, never used gun.

Daniel Moore was going insane. It had been forever since he had someone to speak to, or even listened to! The blood radio did not work. Big surprise. He had fled the vile beasts that now roamed most of the towns and cities. He drove his roofed pick-up truck around randomly, hoping to find survivors, or the likes. On the way he stopped in several places to gather food, water, and equipment. There was one thing that wouldn't kill him for a long time, and that is the lack of food. He drove through a small town. A tiny town. Could it even be called a town? He hardly cared. What he did care about was he was running out of fuel... The one thing he could not find. He hoped for the best, and even prayed when he saw a few buildings up ahead. Would it have fuel? Would it have people? Or would it just be another deserted town? Or even filled with the new species he could not identify. He had seen a few zombie movies, but these weren't zombies, they were people that were turned! It pained him greatly to think that those mindless things were once, in fact, humans like him. He did not have a firearm, the one thing he didn't have. What he did have, was explosives. He had found a demolition shop and grabbed everything he could and stuffed it into his truck. His training in the military told him he might need this stuff later on. There was even a large barrel of black power, used today to fill ammunition. He drove the car randomly in the campus, unsure where to go or stop....when his engine finally died. Now he was shit scared. What was he to do!? He needed to find someone. He needed to find somewhere to hide. He couldn't stay here! Oh why oh why! He went out of the car and took a few TnT bars, which he could light with his lighter and throw and a very large wrench. Stuffing the explosives in a rucksack he began looking around the campus, locking the car behind him.

Kailey's eyes shot up from the firearm she caressed on her lap. That sound... coming from the south... A car?! And then she heard it, the unmistakable sound of a car backfiring and dying.
Kailey wasn't the only one to hear the noise in the dead silence. Many people inside the buildings ran to the window and eyed him. They looked at him for a few moments, judging his idocity. Their interest was soon diverted to something else.
Across the campus, the large belltower in Old College began to strike the call of a new hour. The haunting ringing echoed around the campus and town. As Kailey walked back towards campus through the neighborhood, she shivered. The ringing always gave a eerie effect, now it just seemed demonic and eerie... She up on campus, coming off the street on the right side of the Admission building. Her eyes briefly scanned the street, then across the middle of campus- down what would be 'College Street' had the buildings not been erected and walkways established. She jogged across the street, her eyes keeping the sweeping movement of left to right; east to west... and then she realized it- she forgot her flip-flops... She cursed herself mentally; she couldn't walk around the dorm now, she hated wearing regular shoes... a hassle to put on when she'd just be going to the bathroom or the kitchen for some God-known reason.
...And then she saw it. She broken down truck, and someone just leaving it. Cautiously, she put the butt of the gun against her shoulder and walked towards him. was he armed? Was he infected? was he trying to raid her stashes? ...Who was he? Why is he here? If he's uninfected, does he need a place to hide? ....And then suddenly, the thoughts that should matter least popped into her head: is he cute and is he single? She clamped her eyes shut and physically shook her head. She briefly shifted the mask on her face for better and tighter coverage and continued towards him.
"Stay where you are!!" She shouted out her demand. Her left hand held the rifle steady while her right index finger hovered near the trigger. She had to look funny: a 19-year old in a tank-top, a skirt, sneakers, latex gloves and a face mask glaring protectively at this stranger. A slightly cool breeze blew through the campus, and Kailey shivered. As a result, a few loose strands of dark mocha-brown hair flew into her light, but bright, amber eyes.

Daniel groaned. He had to be at the place with the creepy sounding bell. Great. Just great. He saw people across the windows. A bright smile beamed on his face. "Hey! He-" He was suddenly stopped by the cry of a girl. He stopped. Did someone just yell at him to stay where he was. With all his power he managed to turn around to face this girl and even managed to stay put. shit...she had a gun. He could throw his wrench in hope to buy time to then light a dynamite...shit... He then managed to inspect the girl, and not the gun she held. What kind of clothing was that!? Post-apocalyptic junkie!? Great. Great. He threw his wrench on the floor, and brought his hands over his head. "Uh.... Could you not point that at me? I managed to escape hordes of zombies... It would suck if I have to die at the hands of a teenager with a gun..." He stated, fear showing in his speech. He was wearing loose black clothing, even gloves. It was a bomb-protective clothing, almost immune to fire. He had bright blond hair, which were rather spiky but lacking gel and were moving with every breeze that passed through.
"Listen... Uh... I am Daniel Moore, and I am NOT infected! I have no idea how to prove that, but I don't want to die just yet. You are the first soul I have meet in weeks that is not wanting to rip my head off..." He then thought "Well...all she wants is to shoot me to death. Great."

Kailey gripped the gun and walked closer to him, ignoring his request for her to lower the gun. As she got closer, she examined what he was wearing... well; what WAS he wearing? "You don't look much older than me, you have no room to talk." She coolly stated, then lowered her gun. She stepped closer to him, reached with her gloved hand and lightly grabbed his chin. She seemed to be examining his eyes, looking into him, and not just to have an excuse to look into his eyes. "If you were infected, you're eyes would be tinted pink, if not red already... and your irises would have speck in them..." She explained. "Kailey Anderson." She stated, then held her hand out. "Let's get you sanitized." She murmured. "You'll need a place to stay, my dorm has an extra bed... do you have weapons?" She asked and looked at him, then began to walk back towards her dorm hall. As usual, she ignored the fraternity that she always had to pass. "You must not know the rules..." She added on as she looked over him once more.

Johnathon yawned greatly and sits up as he finally awakes from his rather extended slumber. He gets up from his bed and slowly "drags" his feet feet along the floor as he makes his way to the bathroom so that he may take a shower and replace his day-old clothes with fresh ones. After nearly an hour, he emerges from the bathroom. Like every morning, he would already be half dressed by the time he comes out of the bathroom wearing his usual dark blue jeans. Still drying his hair off with the towel, he picked out a plain white t-shirt. He didn't feel like putting his tie on, because normally he only wore it to look more "professional" to his professors. Once he was done with his outfit, he looked in his fridge for breakfast; only finding a few slices of ham and one egg. Sighing, he cooked that then ate it rather quickly. Afterward, he decided to look around outside a bit for some more food. Taking his keys, a pack of gum--and following the rules for venturing outside his room by putting on the gloves and gas mask--he headed out the door. Not especially worried about his things getting taken, he didn't bother to lock his door. His eyes gazed upon the deserted campus grounds which once held hundreds of students, all scurrying to their classes. Johnathon shook his head and proceeded towards the little restaurant. Every few steps would make his memories of the way the campus used to be flash before his eyes. Not long after did he shake his head and rid him of the memories, his mind was on food. After a few minutes, he reached the restaurant. He scowled at the shattered window, figuring someone had all ready raided the place. Feeling like taking his chances, he continued on, using the opening in the glass to get through. Just like Kailey, he too caught the stench of rotted food. "Where the hell am I to find more food?!" He turned and walked back out. As he got out, he recognized the sound of a truck engine, and quickly chased down the noise. Not too long after, he came across the scene in which Kailey was interacting with Daniel. Seeing the rifle within Kailey's hand, Johnathon tensed. Johnathon stood there, watching the little conversation between the two. The moment Kailey turned his way, he was practically petrified. He reached into his pocket and took out the pack of gum he brought along and hastily took out a piece and put it in his mouth to chew. Gum calmed him rather effectively.

"Bloody hell, Bloody hell, Bloody hell, Bloody hell, Bloody hell, Bloody hell!!" The car swerved right with a loud screech as it swung around the curb somehow managing to stay on two wheels for a moment before righting itself. The sole occupant of the vehicle, peered over the steering wheel, sweat pouring down his face, gas mask firmly strapped on. With one foot firm on the gas pedal and the other alternating between the floor and the brake he haphazardly flew through the city. Supplies, freaking supplies had taken him out of his haven, janitor's storage-room at the nearby campus and out into the city's streets. He had survived mostly off of stolen supplies from the other students but fights were breaking out because of it and the last thing he needed was the only safe haven in this forsaken place imploding into civil war. He shook away the thoughts as the vehicle slowed. He was about half a mile from campus and from the clunking and sputtering that overtook his vessel, he had run out of gas. The car rolled to a halt and he sunk into the seat, leaning his head back against the cushion and staring up into the roof of the car... "Idiot..."
His mind slowly traced back to the pharmacy. He had heard something move...right? And then the shadow...or was that his own...but the face....did look sorta like a gas mask... He touched his own mask and sighed...now what..."Idiot." He had the choice of making this his camping spot or walking to campus though that then would mean he would have to sneak in which again meant he would need to wait till nightfall to get in, added to that he would need to lose all his clothes just in case, on top of that, there were the supplies, he would need to clean the boxes before he brought them unto campus. He sighed and turned to the backseat reaching for one of the boxes glancing at his watch. Dusk was still hours away...he grimaced...patience was never his strong point....

Where the hell were all these guys coming from!? Kailey, for once, was actually getting mad. No one ever came out, and now, all of a sudden, she discovers two guys. Her eyes focused on the bi-colored hair; instantly recognizing him. She'd seen him on campus, and often saw him walking to and from classes from his dorm. Anderson was pretty much across the street from her. She took in a deep breath. She closed her eyes; her room was probably the safest on campus. "You, you're coming with us!" She shouted coolly to Johnathan. Kailey gently put her hand on Daniel's back and guiding him towards her dorm. Already having an extra mouth to feed was going to make her tight on food, but a third? She'd have to go out again anyways, she forgot another gas can.... but at least Johnathan was a but more protective than Daniel.
And once more, in the distance of the dead-quiet town, she heard another engine die. Kailey groaned and walked faster. She took in a deep breath, then began to walk towards the other car she heard. "Do either of you have weapons?" She asked, not bothering to turn around. She suddenly stopped once she reached Johnathan. "Kailey Anderson." She told him. "You should have a weapon in case it spread further onto campus. I want to check out this new car I heard breaking down.... and personally, I would rather have you two with me. My room... is probably the safest place you'll find around here... not to mention I have enough food for weeks, and I'm gradually getting more... But soon... we'll have to leave. We have to get to a secluded area or something, where no people are." She took in a deep breath, then exhaled. As she inhaled, the mask caved in slightly, then fixed itself as she exhaled. "So, I give you both two options: come with me, see who that was, then we'll all go back to my room and get you all disinfected, just in case.... or you two can just roam around, lost and without help." She explained with a shrug. She didn't care... but joining her was probably the smartest thing they could do. After all... she had a car that still ran, and had gas to last a while... and would be getting more.
Not exactly waiting for a reply, she turned and began to, once more, walk towards the sound she heard the car. Only one street had a direct route out of here... that had to be where the next person was. And Kailey walked on, towards whoever would be there.

"I have plenty of my own resources, we can carry it to headquarters or the likes..." Headquarters, HAH! What joke... a dorm could never be a true headquarters. It made him mad. Why should he trust the random teenager who was probably not allowed to drink? But he followed her order and took out a dynamite stick from his rucksack. He readied his lighter, ready to light the stick of explosive and throw it at whatever might come. His wrench was hanging on his belt, he was lucky enough to have picked it up before leaving. "Listen...we have to go to my car, I don't want thieves taking the stuff away from it... It's damn expensive what is in it!" He urged her. "Listen, I am not going anywhere believe me, the car ran out of fuel. But I want to get back there.... It's my stuff!" He then gave a stick of dynamite and a lighter to Johnathan. "I got plenty of both on me, if you hear explosions...it's me!"
He headed towards his car, his wrench ready in one hand never looking back at the two teens.

Johnathon jumped at the yell from Kailey, "All right." He was still chewing his gum. His eyes kept gazing to the rifle as the scene played through, then shook his head to the question about weapons. Johnathon sighed when she said for them both to go to her dorm, and again when Daniel said he was going a separate direction. He gulped when Daniel handed him the dynamite and lighter, wondering why the hell he would need something with so much 'kick'. After a few chews later, he blew a little bubble which popped after a second or two. He stuffed the items in his pockets and followed after Kailey to her dorm and just kept silent.

Kailey walked on. What was she going to need? Should she run by her room? "We're gonna run to my dorm... Do you want a lighter mask than that? It really isn't good, having that extra weight. A simple mask like this is just as good... and it's not like it's a chemical explosion or with fumes." She pointed out softly, walked up to C-street and slid her card. She held the door open for Johnathon, then lead him around the small dorm to her room. "Either you can stay in my dorm... or come with me. I want to see who, or what, that car belongs to. She slowly opened the door, stepped inside and grabbed the can of Lysol. She sprayed the doorknob, the door, then herself. She took her gloves off, then held the can for Johnathon to spray himself down. "I'm a clean freak... please, clean yourself off." She requested, then shut the door. She went to the second closet, opened it, pulled out a bottle of Clorox and grabbed a cloth. she grabbed another pair of gloves, put them on and cleaned her gun carefully. After a few minutes, she stood up, put the bucket of Clorox in the closet and shut the door. Once more, she took the gloves off, threw them away and put a new pair on. She looked at Johnathon from behind her mask. "Are you coming with?" She asked and put a hand on her hip.

Johnathon let another bubble pop as she asked about the mask, "No, it's fine...." He took the Lysol can and nodded his head as he began to spray himself down with the contents. Once he was sure he was 'cleaned', he took note of all the precautions that Kailey took when handling herself and the items she carried outside, and thought it was strange. A frown formed when she had asked him about going with her as he hadn't planned on going with her or staying in her dorm. "I'll stay here... If you don't mind," he said as he was finished with his first piece of gum. To dispose of it, he just swallowed it and took another piece out of the pack and began to chew on it as well. "Don't worry, I won't touch anything....or leave."

Kailey carefully looked at him, grabbed another mask, her gun and this time a knife. "Alright... just... if you leave... make sure my door is locked and shut. Go ahead and watch some tv or something, it's all good... there's some DVDs and games if you wish to entertain yourself. Until then.. uh... here's my number in case you need anything." She stated, then wrote it down- she left it on her desk. "I'll be back as soon as I can." She verified, turned, shut the door and left.
She walked down the hall, out her door the back way and went back to where she thought she heard the car explosion. Her hands gripped the rifle; her eyes scanned the campus. She walked by the final sorority and fraternity on campus, stepped off and looked down the many streets, searching for the cause of the noise. She took a long walk; a 3 minute car ride turned into a 20-25 minute walk. And then... her wishes were granted: she found it. Slowly, she walked to the car, her guard never going down as her arms brought the gun up and she pointed it at him as she became closer. "Are you well?" She called out cautiously. The butt of the gun was firmly to her shoulder, her eyes focused on him. She stayed at a short distance from him, but from behind the mask; her eyes could be seen as staring at him... hard.

Seeing that she wasn't getting a reply from the man in the car, she took in a deep breath, cocked the gun and turned to walk back to campus. She walked briskly; her eyes constantly looking around to make sure nothing or no one was following her. Any chance that a twig did happen to snap, she would stop, point her gun in the direction, check, then continue on her way. The total 45 minute walk ended with her back at her dorm hall by herself.
Kailey walked to her room, pushed the door open and stared at Johnathon. "Do you wanna get out of here? I have a car, we can pack up, get gas as we need it and just drive. Being stuck in a dorm like this all the time isn't healthy..." like outside is any healthier... She thought to herself and sighed heavily. "You have a few moments to give me an answer before I take everything and get the hell out."

Out of sheer instinct he had chosen to pretend to be passed out. After she left though he sighed. That plan had failed miserably. He had hoped her to be the compassionate type and gained entrance to the campus without much explanation. He would simply play the role of the passed out stranger until he managed to get a chance to slip away and given the look of things she was not lacking in supplies. He sighed though the mask and opened the car door. She did however provide one thing and that was a means of escape. He followed her back to the campus keeping his distance so that she would suspect nothing and upon making it unto the campus he parted ways with his escort heading towards the car park. He silently thanked her for showing him this entrance to the campus, normally he would have encountered security of some kind but this was much better. He moved quickly between the cars checking to see which unsuspecting idiot had left their vehicle open, that idiot would be his savior. He chuckled to himself as he continued to navigate the slew of locked cars....

Johnathon would quietly yawn and stretch as Kailey had come back in. He continued to chew on his gum rather nervously as he didn't exactly want to get shot. Feeling that it would safer, even if it was a bit nerve racking, he decided to travel with this girl. He felt that maybe he could see a different side to this rather cold girl, and sighed heavily. "I think it'll both healthy and safe to travel along with you, as you are equipped well enough, as your room and yourself showcases." Johnathon would stand up and smile sheepishly at, trying to impersonate a calmer person.

Kailey nodded in approval and glanced around the room. "I have extra bags and a couple suitcases in the other closet. Grab one and start putting everything you can into them. In a backpack that I want to carry around at all times, I want clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, lysol, face masks and bottled water." She told him, then began to collect all of her stuff. From under the desk, she grabbed a bag and placed a few of her more personal needs in it. She then went to the other closet, grabbed the suitcases, left them out and began to pack everything up. She left the backpack by Johnathon for him to pack everything else up in. Once Kailey had finished, she went to her desk, grabbed her keys, glanced around the room and nodded. "Let's get out of here." She directed, then lead him out of the dorm hall.
Kailey's eyes scanned the parking lot, then narrowed. There had been rumors, at one time, that all the cars in the parking lots had been drained of fuel... All the unfortunate ones that didn't have a lock on the fuel door had been drained. But that rumor had started on North Quad, with the Greek-life students. There was no way that they had gotten through all those cars and onto south quad in a few days... Gripping the handle to the suitcase with that in mind, she hurried to the back lot towards her car. She glanced behind her to make sure Johnathon was following her. her eyes, however, caught someone else. "Hey!" She snapped and began to ran. She pulled the rifle back up and aimed it at the other male. "You move, I fire." She snapped. "Who are you and what the f*ck do you think you're doing to my car?!" She angrily yelled. He was standing right next to her precious dark blue SUV.

His first instinct had been to run but the word shoot penetrated him like a bullet would, halting his footsteps . He raised his hands in the air and turned aorund to face. "You?" He blurted out recognizing her from earlier before. What were the odds of running into this girl twice in one day and in such a short space of time. Had she somehow lured him here? Was the return to her dorm, a clever rouse to get him to reveal himself. Had he been deceived by this child. Tch. He gritted his teeth but did not move another muscle. His life was worth more than the answer to any of those questions. "Beads of sweat began to collect on his brow as he stared at the girl with the gun.

Kailey's eyes narrowed behind the mask she wore. She aimed at the ground next to his foot and pulled the trigger. "Answer the question before I shoot your leg and really expose you to the infections." She snapped. She was more than willing to take him with if he weren't infected. She began to walk closer to her car, the gun once more trained on him. She might've been short... but she was dangerous. "Just answer... that's all I want.. you're name.... and what you're doing near my car..." She calmly told him.

"Joe." He answered not caring for the lie he was giving. Its not like she would pull out a register to check his name. She wanted a name and he gave her one. Anything to get out of line with that damned gun. Why was a college student carrying a gun...well that was a dumb questioned given the circumstances yet he was curious as to where she had gotten it from. He himself had never fired a gun before not even held one, she looked comfortable. He gritted his teeth. "Joe." He repeated a second time just in case she had not heard. "Looking for a way out of here is all." He had chanced adding another statement to answer the next obvious question. He would have continued but women were such agnsty creatures at times. His eyes followed her through the mask as he began to sweat. damn it had gotten so humid or was this anxiety heating the place up.
